Terry Wilkinson (Writer)Nazi Deputy Führer Rudolf Hess has landed in Britain to sue for peace. Hitler wants him back and German spy, Howard Wesley, convinces his masters that he’s the man to do it.
Abwehr insists it is to be a two-man job and send recently recruited Eric Vaughan as his partner. But when Wesley sees that Vaughan’s other task, to sabotage the Mosquito factory, is no more than an elaborate illusion, he suspects that they are on different sides.
Nevertheless, they form a working partnership, and Vaughan’s criminal associates are also brought into play. With Hess in a heavily guarded Mytchett Place in Surrey, Wesley buys a nearby farm in which to secure the man pending extrication to the Reich.
Wesley’s nemesis, MI5 agent Albert Stokes devises a trap to ensnare him, using Hess as bait. With a crew of RAF Fifth Columnists also planning their own daring bid to kidnap Hess on the same day, the roads around Mytchett Place threaten to be congested.
